Wing play vs 4 Defenders

Can you defend against wing play with only 4 defenders ? Usually, 5 defenders are recommended here, but i want to know your ecperiences with this.Can you defend against wing play with only 4 defenders ?

I suspect you expect simple answer like yes or no but answer is simply put it yes and no! 5-man defensive line narrows down space for winger(s) on the flank! Which means players find it difficult to pass the ball to winger! Look at the senior world league for example. There aren't much games where 5 man defensive line isn't used! Now look at U21 league - tactics vary a lot more because players are a lot weaker and there you can see alot more 4 man defensive lines agaisnt wing teams. On senior levels 2 wingers are prefered, so against 2 winger tactic 4 man defensive line is going to mean that you are in trouble as one of them will most likely have alot of space on flank!I suspect you expect simple answer like yes or no but answer is simply put it yes and no!
